Meet Chef/Owner Karen Hutto
Karen Hutto began her love of food and cooking at age 5 when her Cajun grandmother stood her on a stool in front of the stove and taught her to make a roux for the Sunday gumbo.
Influenced by the cuisine and chefs of the French Quarter and bayous of Louisiana her culinary appreciation grew. As a young adult she traveled extensively, increasing her knowledge of regional cooking techniques, food and wine.
After a nursing career that lasted 24 years, Karen decided to pursue her passion, great food and wine.
An all female corporation was formed in 1999 and The Flying Pig Great Food To Go was born. Karen has been catering in Southwest Florida for 10 years, and since it’s inception the business has continued to expand. In April 2005 The Flying Pig opened its retail location at 7970 Summerlin Lakes Drive.
The Flying Pig continues to offer full event catering including customized menus. for any occasion. In addition, cooking classes are offered for adults and children.
As an active member of the community Karen is an active member in The Junior League of Fort Myers, sits on the boards of the Gulf Coast Symphony and The Heights Foundation and is a member of the Women Chefs and Restaurateurs Association. She and her husband Ken have 5 grandchildren and a wire-haired Fox Terrier.
Meet Chef Lisa Fidler
Chef Lisa comes to The Flying Pig via Boston. Graduating from the Bunker Hill Culinary Academy in Boston with her Culinary Arts and Science Degree, Lisa then obtained a minor in Pastry Arts. Lisa has several years experience as an Executive Chef, Executive Pastry Chef, and owned her own catering/private chef company in the Boston Area. She has worked for celebrities and dignitaries, brides and done simple BBQ's.
Chef Lisa's philosophy is to always use sustainable, local, good quality foods and transform them with a creative flair into amazingly delicious bites!! Lisa loves to share her experiences and teach the basics to anyone wanting to share the love of food.
